The Netherfield Centre for Sustainable Food and Farming supports sustainable agriculture and local food production in the Sussex area. It is sited on a working organic demonstration farm and is a joint venture with Plumpton College.
Centre Activities
We run a full programme of courses from "Starting a Beef Herd" to "Diversification: Growing Herbs and Salad Crops." And it's not only for farmers; many different rural skills are also being taught.
We developed the ‘Sussex Breakfast’ in 2007 in cooperation with 1066 Country Marketing and Tourism South East, linking B&Bs with Sussex farmers producing bacon, sausage, egg, milk, and more. Click here to see the expanding list of places to stay and enjoy a local breakfast.
We also arrange for farmers to shadow 'experts' or visit demonstration sites. Farmers and growers are offered advisory visits, telephone or e-mail advice and mentoring, as well as being directed to other farming or environmental advisors.
