ABOUT US – PROJECT
LINKS
Common Cause
works with other local and national organisations initiating and participating
in a number of activities. These have included a housing co-operative,
a furniture recycling scheme, and an "Art for Employment"
project.
More recently much of Common Cause's work has focused on supporting
sustainable food production and Access for all to
healthy fresh food. Organic farming which is promoted through the
Oates Training Programme has been shown
to play an important role in supporting rural communities and increasing
local employment opportunities and has led to the development of the
Netherfield Centre for Sustainable Food and
Farming.
Both Lewes Farmers' Market and George
Street, Hove Farmers' Market increase opportunities for vegetable-box
delivery schemes and for consumers to purchase
fresh, more environmentally produced, local food. In conjunction with
Sussex Rural Community Council Common Cause have created a Local
Produce Directory which supports links between local producers
and local food outlets and caterers. Additionally low cost organic
local products can be accessed through the Just
Trade food co-operative run by Common Cause volunteers.
